Adlee Efraim Presents' concerts across
London
Since the first evening in February 2023, Adlee Efraim Presents
concerts have become keenly anticipated for their vulnerability and novelty.
Whether these evenings are premiering music lost since 1820 or
mixing Armenian chant with songs from Weimar Berlin, what they hold in common is
a performer who does not rely on preexisting tastes.
And a programme, a venue, paintings, etc. which are all
completely beholden to the animating idea.
That interiority and theatricality attracts a special crowd
which makes the audience of a hundred feel, at interval, as vast as those of
ancient temples. While at those moments where the music is suspensefully slow,
almost silent, the concert feels as small as a mother singing to her son by the
fireplace.
These ladies and gentlemen who came for the unexpected: they
seize the highs, they sway the lows.
The job of the impresario is to hence mutually connect, like an
electrician, the musicians and the audience so that as much as, acoustically,
every note is heard, we feel, paradoxically through concerts as essays, the
primordial, universal essence of music at this “pencil drawing” scale.
